LGBT+ Support for our Patients
Pride in Practice Award
Pride in Practice is a quality assurance support service delivered by LGBT Foundation that strengthens and develops a GP Practice’s relationship with their lesbian, gay and bisexual patients. You can find out more at LGBT Foundation.
It supports GP practices to make improvements in health outcomes for their lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) patients, as well as strengthen their engagement with, and understanding of, that community.
Kearsley Medical Centre has recently achieved the Pride In Practice SILVER Award to celebrate their dedication to delivering an excellent service to all patients.
The Pride in Practice award demonstrates our Practice's commitment and dedication to ensuring a fully inclusive patient-centred service. The award is attained through a short, efficient and focussed self-assessment process which highlights our service’s strengths and any areas where LGBT Foundation can offer practice support to develop.
Our Equality and Diversity policies are updated annually and our staff have mandatory training every year. We aim to provide a confidential service and respect the rights of all our patients and help them access the care they need.
We do not discriminate on gender, gender identity, marital status, pregnancy and maternity, sexual orientation, race, colour, nationality, religion or belief, age or disability.
LGBT patients may wish to discuss parenting options, e.g. fostering, surrogacy, adoption, IVF, with our clinicians. Below are useful websites to aid this discussion.
- the NHS webpage about having a baby if you are LGBT+
- the GIC’s online information about gamete storage
- Proud 2B Parents, a Great-Manchester based organisation who support LGBT+ parents and parents-to-be
